5 Days | Armenia
Discover "Authentic Armenia" in a complete week of exploration that will take you beyond conventional tourist routes. This 7-day itinerary is designed for the traveler seeking a comprehensive understanding of the country, spanning from the lowlands of the Ararat valley to the snow-capped peaks of Mount Aragats, and from pagan antiquity to Christian medieval architecture.
We begin in the capital, Erevan, but soon venture into the deep south. We will visit the iconic Khor Virap monastery, the closest place to the biblical Mount Ararat, where the story of Saint Gregory the Illuminator comes to life. We will continue to the Vayots Dzor region, famous for its millennial wines, to explore the Areni Cave (where the world's oldest shoe was found) and the spectacular Noravank monastery, a two-story architectural jewel surrounded by red cliffs.
The journey also takes us to the heights. We will climb the slopes of Mount Aragats, the highest peak of present-day Armenia, to visit the medieval fortress of Amberd. At 2,300 meters high, this impregnable fortification offers impressive views and a lesson in military history. We won't miss the visit to the green north: Lake Sevan and the forests of Dilijan, visiting the monastic complexes of Goshavank and Haghartsin.
Of course, the must-sees like Garni, Geghard and Echmiadzin are included, completing a perfect circle. This week-long journey allows for a leisurely pace, ideal for enjoying Armenia's rich gastronomy, its wines and the legendary hospitality of its people. It is the definitive experience to capture the spirit of Armenia.
