Explore the "Southern Cave Cities" on an intense 1-day excursion (or 2 relaxed days, depending on traveler preference). From Tbilisi, we will travel directly south through changing landscapes.
Vardzia and Rabati
The objective is to visit Vardzia, the most spectacular rock complex in the country, carved into a vertical rock wall. We will also see the Khertvisi fortress and Rabati castle in Akhaltsikhe. The return journey can include a stop in Borjomi to taste its famous mineral water. A journey into the past to discover how Georgians lived in the Golden Age, excavating their homes, churches and pharmacies in living rock.

DAY 1: Tbilisi - Vardzia - Khertvisi - Akhaltsikhe - Bordjomi - Tbilisi
After breakfast at the hotel, we will begin by visiting Vardzia, an impressive 12th-century rock-hewn monastery city excavated in the rock, with tunnels, cellars and medieval frescoes. We will continue towards the Khertvisi Fortress, one of the oldest in Georgia, strategically situated in the Samtskhe-Javakheti valley. Then, we will explore the Akhaltsikhe Fortress (Rabat), a historical complex with Georgian, Ottoman and Persian influences, where we will stroll through gardens and discover its museum. We will end the day in Bordjomi, famous for its healing mineral waters and the picturesque Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, ideal for relaxing and exploring nature.
