About this trip
Dedicate a day to spirituality and history with the "Imereti Monasteries" excursion. This 1-day trip focuses on the surroundings of Kutaisi, Georgia's second largest city and former capital of the Kingdom of Colchis. The itinerary takes us to two UNESCO World Heritage sites, fundamental to understanding Georgia's Golden Age.
Bagrati and Gelati
We will begin by visiting the majestic Bagrati Cathedral, built in the 11th century as a symbol of Georgian unity. Located on a hill, it offers panoramic views of the city. Next, we will head to Gelati Monastery, founded by King David the Builder. This complex was not only a spiritual center, but also an academy of sciences and philosophy, adorned with impressive mosaics and frescoes.
Underground World
The day is completed with a visit to Prometheus Cave, a natural wonder with illuminated underground chambers, stalactites and stalagmites. According to legend, this is where Prometheus was chained. A perfect excursion for those who wish to delve into medieval history and the natural beauty of western Georgia in a single day.
